Merengue action is used by Man on each step as follows

1 L knee is firmly straightened on second half of preceding step, causing L hip to move back and to L, then RF is placed back with knee flexed
2 R knee is firmly straightened on second half of preceding step, causing R hip to move back and to R, then LF is placed back with knee flexed
The natural reaction in Man's body to the straightening and flexing of knees indicates the turn for Lady

Points to Remember

The knee is slightly flexed as foot tracks under body, passing other foot
Turn is initiated in the feet, which are parallel throughout
There is no turn in upper body. Shoulders remain square to partner. Retain upright position

When Plait is not repeated, last step is BF. If preferred, heels may lightly touch the floor on each step
